NUANS is hosting the live-action-role-play "NILE ON THE RHINE" as part of the ODYSSEY series. Boarding takes place at Kapuzinergasse in Düsseldorf's old town, where the AERIAL serves as a ship that takes participants on a dramatic journey.
In small groups (max 8 people), visitors follow a long flag that winds through the entire building like a Lindworm in the Rhine and—like Ariadne's thread—serves as a guide. Everyone on board is given roles that relate to the characters in the 1978 film version of “Death on the Nile” and are each associated with specific tasks.
On the ship, the teams are faced with spatial and temporal tableaux that they enter for a specific period of time. In a setting of artworks and spectacular performances, they must then complete their individual tasks. At the end, each group reaches its own view of the horizon. The final task is to formulate a collective toast to share their experiences and insights.
By juxtaposing what has been and what is yet to come, entry and exit, and young and old, this journey is dedicated to overcoming collective inertia.
As an edition by LRRH, NUANS & Rita McBride, a souvenir will be created over the course of the event: a scarf that can be worn in all directions to symbolize community and connection.
The artist group NUANS was founded in 2006 in Rita McBride's class. Important elements such as cooperation, publicity, and performativity have played a key role in NUANS from the very beginning. The event is embedded in ODYSSEY, an interdisciplinary art project with events and exhibitions at various locations. This creates a connection between individual chapters that weave the entire program into a narrative. Rita McBride repeatedly uses literature and narratives as tools to involve other artists in projects. The event at AERIAL follows this interest by having all participating artists and guests continue the “legacy” together as a role play.
