Oar or ore? Boat or house? Traveling or staying at home? Change or origin?
Objects and humans can generally be classed into two categories: Some are active, transportable, in transit. Others stay fixed, immovable, bound to one position. At Galerie Max Mueller (Max Mueller Bhavan) artist initiative nüans (Düsseldorf, Germany / Istanbul, Turkey) organizes an event called "OAR OR ORE" which is dedicated to one chapter of their recent publication: APOGEE- A COMPILATION OF SOLITUDE, ECOLOGY AND RECREATION (revolver 2011).
The project combines elements of a book launch, an art exhibition with contributors out of the book and a live performance with local musicians. Concerning its material APOGEE is based on wood which could have also turned into something totally different like a boat or a bungalow. As a publication APOGEE serves as the basic raft that travels with a crew of 80 international artists and writers to different destinations. To reach new readers a book needs to be translated into various languages and formats. Printed content can travel through time and space but language transfer sometimes ignores specific associations and nuances. The exhibition in Mumbai explores different fields of transportation and translation of ideas that get closer to their real content through variation and realization. Thus misunderstandings and absurdity can also turn into complexity and enrichment.
I used to think that the truth would never come
now feeling life on my burning tongue.
